Nomads Chess Club

We are a well established Nottingham chess club based in Sherwood, Nottingham and are a founder member of the Nottingham Chess Association.

What we offer

We have a very friendly club, that caters for Nottingham chess players of all abilities. If you want an informal game of chess, then just pop in, you will be more than welcome.

For all chess players looking to improve their chess, especially new and inexperienced players, we regularly arrange training events which are both informative and fun.
Junior chess players are especially welcome.

Nottingham Trent University

We have a number of players that are at (or used to be at) Nottingham Trent University. Many of Trent students live in or around the Sherwood, Daybrook, Arnold, Basford, Radford areas, which are within walking distance from our club. As Nottingham Trent don't have a chess club, why not join ours and help us give Nottingham University a run for their money?

Junior Chess

We have a number of strong junior players, that have played at both County and National levels. We also have a number of dads that drag their kids along also, but don't worry kids, you will have many "dragged along kids" to play against and sympathise with.

Our Venue

We play chess at the Sherwood Community Centre, on Mansfield Road in Nottingham. This is just up the Mansfield Road from the Sherwood shopping area, opposite Woodthorpe Park. The area is well served by bus routes direct from the City Centre. For a map, just click on our multimap link on the right hand side of this page.

As we play in a Community Centre, there is no problem with access for for children. Our playing times are earlier than other clubs (all matches start at 7.15pm) and we close at 10pm (we are concious that there is school the next day.)
Ground floor accommodation also provides wheelchair access.
There is plenty of car parking space in the grounds of the Community Centre.

Our Teams

We have 4 teams in the Nottinghamshire Chess League. This means that players who wish to play regular league chess in Nottingham will have plenty of opportunities at different levels.
