Nomads Chess Club

is a well established chess club based in Sherwood, Nottingham and is a founder member of the Nottingham Chess Association.

What we offer

We have a very friendly club, that caters for chess players of all abilities. If you want an informal game of chess, then just pop in, you will be more than welcome.

For players looking to improve their chess, especially new and inexperienced players, we regularly arrange training events which are both informative and fun.

Junior chess players are especially welcome. We have a number of strong junior players, that have played at both County and National levels.

Our Venue

We play at the Sherwood Community Centre, on Mansfield Road in Nottingham. This is just up the Mansfield Road from the Sherwood shopping area, opposite Woodthorpe Park. The area is well served by bus routes direct from the City Centre. For a map, just click on our multimap link.

As we play in a Community Centre, there is no problem with access for for children. Our playing times are earlier than other clubs (all matches start at 7.15pm) and we close at 10pm (we are concious that there is school the next day.)
Ground floor accommodation also provides wheelchair access.

For those players that fancy a beer, we normally retire to the Fiveways pub around 10.10pm (5 mins away). We keep chess sets behind the bar, where we can analyse our mistakes and show off our best moves over a couple of pints.

Our Teams

For the 2008/2009 season, we will have 4 teams in the Nottinghamshire Chess League. This means that players who wish to play regular league chess will have plenty of opportunities. Playing regular matches is a good way to improve your chess.
